A Look Back at 2008
As the Moores of Matthews look back on 2008, there is so much for which we are thankful: the safe delivery of Jack, Gracie’s continued growth and development and of course, Josie the dog’s continued good health. However, as we look back on this year, there appears to be one undeniable theme that keeps coming up, and that is the importance of community and how different communities have impacted us both this year and through the years.
o We are thankful for the communities of family and friends in Florida and North Carolina who sacrificed, prayed and invested so much in making us who we are and giving us the values we cherish.
o We are thankful for the educational communities at Ben Lippen, Sewanee, Chapel Hill, Indiana University, Duke and now at Carmel Baptist Wee School that have taught us so much and provided both tools for building other communities and, most importantly, lifelong friends.
o We are thankful for the faith communities that have ministered to us as we’ve faced life’s ups and downs through the years at Church of the Good Shepherd, Redeemer New York, Christ Church NYC, Christ Covenant, and now King of Kings.
o We are thankful for the working communities that have provided us so many opportunities to grow and stretch ourselves whether in various political campaigns, symphonies, opera companies or at The American Dance Festival, Cadwalader, Morris Manning or now Wishart Norris.
o We are thankful for the various informal communities that we’ve participated through the year be they pro bono projects, mission teams, playgroups, small group Bible studies, Christian Legal Society, or guardian ad litem.
In short, the Moores of Matthews are learning that community makes us who we are, make the rough times bearable and the good times sweeter, and it’s well worth investing in and building year in and year out. Thank you for being a part of our community in 2008, and we look forward to sharing 2009 with you.
Happy Holidays!!!
Gideon, Anne, Gracie, and Jack Moore
